I am very angry at our Douglas County commissioners, who must believe that they can spend any amount of tax payer $$$ on pointless projects.
I am referring to the continuing payments to outside attorney Leonhardt. Mr. Leonhardt was hired earlier this year to determine “if” the county could use ARPA funds to make the initial payment to RWR for the “pie in the sky” San Luis Valley water plan. Mr. Leonhardt determined that the answer is no, Douglas County cannot use ARPA funds for this project.
However, it appears Commissioners Teal and Laydon continued to employ Mr. Leonhardt through at least August. The original cost of $25,000 could now have ballooned to over $100,000 (it is reported the amount was $ 75,000 through June, and I am projecting the additional increase). Mr. Leonhardt was instructed to continue looking at the details of the RWR proposal — why?
When does this stop? There is a zero chance that this ridiculous project would ever be approved by the State of Colorado. In addition, the final cost of this project is not feasible, but Commissioner Teal believes this is the water project of the future, and Commissioner Laydon seems to agree.
If Commissioners Teal and Laydon believe so strongly in this RWR project, why didn’t they create a ballot initiative to address this? Instead they continue to burn through tax payer dollars.
