Regarding the column “Fewer freedoms, more politics” by Linda Newell, July 7:

Former state Sen. Linda Newell’s July 7 column, “Fewer freedoms, more politics,” leaves me wondering.

Why should women bear the burden of abortion when men should be responsible for their role in pregnancy?

What about the rights of the female lives lost via abortion?

Would Senator Newell be willing to define the terms advanced regarding abortion by President Bill Clinton and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton: safe — legal — rare?

In light of her concern about politicization of the judiciary, how does Senator Newell evaluate previous Supreme Court decisions, such as: Obamacare (2012), Obergefell (2015), DACA (2020), and Bostock (2020)?

If “politics is local,” why wouldn’t Senator Newell advocate for abortion rules to be decided at the community and state level, as the Dobbs decision allows?
