Primary ballots are in the mail, and I’ve received over a hundred texts, emails, and phone calls from people asking me “who should I vote for in the primary for sheriff.” My answer is resoundingly vote for DCSO Capt. Darren Weekly. Captain Weekly’s 28 years of outstanding service with DCSO is just the start of why he is the best candidate for sheriff.
One of the many reasons people live in Douglas County is because it is a safe, beautiful, conservative county to raise kids; also, it’s a thriving county for business prosperity. As your sheriff, it isn’t just my personal or professional opinion that Douglas County citizens prioritize public safety, the Board of County Commissioners’ annual survey results prove it. For the past 16-plus years, Douglas County citizens have consistently rated Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at a 95% or greater approval rating. Douglas County residents and businesses have developed respect and trust for law enforcement based on quality-driven, positive experiences. These factors are exceptionally important when you vote for your next sheriff, and the reason voters should elect Darren Weekly.
Captain Weekly’s three opponents in the sheriff’s race include: two candidates that previously, but unsuccessfully, attempted to become sheriff, John Anderson and Lora Thomas. Ms. Thomas has not been employed in law enforcement for almost 20 years. Mr. Anderson has not been employed in law enforcement in approximately seven years. These are significant issues for voters to consider. The third candidate Holly Nicholson-Kluth was terminated for cause from DCSO. As a result of her behavior a credibility disclosure notification was sent by the Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney and a Notification of Findings of Untruthfulness was sent to the Colorado Department of Law — Police Officer Standards and Training (POST).
Douglas County deserves a sheriff like Darren Weekly that has 28 years of uninterrupted and unquestioned ethics in law enforcement.
As your Douglas County sheriff, and with 42 years of law enforcement experience, I wholeheartedly encourage you to vote for Darren Weekly as the only candidate that is qualified, serves with impeccable honor, and has earned the endorsement from five sheriffs in Colorado and our local Fraternal Order of Police.
God bless Douglas County.
